Otoplasty (Ear Surgery) in Bellevue
Otoplasty, or Ear Surgery, is a procedure that can greatly improve an adult's or child's self-esteem. Protruding ears can be realigned more closely to the head for a balanced look. Aging, lengthened ear lobes can be reduced to achieve a more youthful appearance. Children can benefit from otoplasty after the age of 5.
Dr. Anderson carefully plans each otoplasty through
consultations to determine the most effective way to
perform the procedure for each individual. The patient
is given IV sedation at Dr. Anderson's AAAHC accredited
suite in Bellevue, Washington for maximum hygienic safety.
Incisions are made just behind the ear in the natural
fold where the ear joins the head. The necessary amounts
of cartilage and skin are then removed.
In cases of ear lobe re-shaping, tissue is trimmed to give a more aesthetic appearance. Fine sutures are placed to keep the ear in place while healing occurs.
Patients can be driven home the same day after ear revision
surgery. Soft dressings are applied to the ears which
are removed in a few days. Medication is prescribed
for any discomfort. For proper healing, it is important
that the patient sleep the first night with head
elevated by several pillows, face up to avoid pressure
on the ears. Headbands may be recommended to aid
healing. Sutures are removed in the office about
7-10 days after surgery. Any scarring will be hidden
in the natural ear fold.
The result of ear surgery is a more
balanced, attractive appearance. While individual results may vary, surgery of protruding or aging ears helps achieve an improved physical appearance and an improved feeling of self-esteem.
Dr. Anderson has done many hundreds of ear revision
surgeries. If you have been considering otoplasty, trust
